Candice Webber – a blog
‘Life becomes more meaningful when you realise the simple fact that you’ll never get the same moment twice.”
When I was contacted to do this blog they said keep it light. Then my Granny passed away.
Heather Webber was an amazing woman who always smelled of Dove soap and ironing starch.
It’s funny the things you remember. She was not one to dwell on things as she always turned the coin over to see the positive on the flip side.
We used to joke that she birthed half of Bathurst – she was a midwife. I kid you not, she would stop every single parent on the street and ask after the children by name. She made the time, she stopped, she cared.
Since our industry was furloughed, made redundant and closed, I have seen such amazing humanity among my peers. The ideology and unity across business is fantastic. Not all people have the opportunity to see it though.
This is why Food Service Circle is fantastic. Its about community for our industry not about plugging a company and getting a foot up on your competitors.
Needless to say being furloughed has been challenging on my waistline and my bank balance.
Over a glass of wine one night, I remembered what my dad said when he was facing redundancy as a draftsman (they were becoming obsolete) -he said ‘retrain or get left behind.’ He did retrain and now owns his own archetectual business in Australia.
With this in mind, I decided to start a course, first it was fitness training, then advanced nutrition and meal planning.
SO WHAT you ask. What are you supposed to do with that right now. That was my next question to myself.
What was next, what was I meant to do with that? ‘I’ll start a business’ I said to myself “I need a website, but how on earth do I do that?“
Google came to the rescue and I used a web builder called WIX – there’s a few out there eg Squarespace. I made a few calls to friends and there we have it.
A few months of work and I now feel more in control of my own future. I now have an operational limited company that’s getting traction.
Life goes on and seeing the beauty in the small moments and knowing that the thing we pine will return.
Knowing my neighbours better and supporting our suppliers, colleagues, our elderly local residence and our sense of community has all benefited from this moment in time.
So my advice to anyone out there who has an idea about a business, and doesn’t know where to start, is just talk to somebody and reach out. There are many willing hands to help.
I can’t wait for 2021 a vaccine and catch up with my work crew! Wow – that’s going to be one hell of a party.
