We want to ensure you are well equipped with the correct resources and tools to support you at a time when the industry is fragile. Maybe your role has already been made redundant or you feel uncertain about your future. Today we would like to share with you our top 7 tips on how to optimise your LinkedIn profile, and how this could help you secure your next role.

Tip 1 – Profile Picture

Your Profile Picture and Cover Image. Ensure your profile picture is professional. A professional photo is essential for a strong LinkedIn profile. Save the selfies poses for your Instagram feed.

Tip 2 – Open to work

LinkedIn now features an “open to work” logo. One of the first steps in looking for work, is letting others know you’re looking. This is a great feature which once set up, appears on your profile picture. You are able to specify the types of jobs you’re interested in, indicate your preferred start date and location, ensuring you show up in more recruiter search results.

Tip 3 – Job Title

It sounds so simple but recruiters search for people in specific job roles. Always make sure your job title reflects what you do. So, for example if you’re a Head Chef, make sure you specify this on your profile. It makes it easier for recruiters to search for suitable candidates.

Tip 4- Skills and Experience

LinkedIn is a perfect platform for self-promotion. Professionals want to hear about how great you are. Tell them! Highlight key achievements and demonstrate your skills and knowledge.

Tip 5 – Explain why you’re looking for a new role

Due to the challenges faced by many individuals and industries because of COVID-19, recruiters are far more understanding if you’ve been made redundant. Let them know. This is not a reflection on you as an individual. What matters is that you have the knowledge, experience and skills to do the job and do it well. Hence the reason why it is so important to ensue you add all your existing skills and experience, and use this platform at a gateway to promote your own branding.

Tip 6 – Get Creative

Get creative. People love to view new and exciting content. We are not suggesting that you get snap happy and start sharing photos of your social activities, but capturing and sharing activities which are relevant to your professional field, is truly welcomed. If you are passionate about food, share what you know. Share your knowledge. Share your expertise. The more content you post, the greater the chances of growing your network which could increase your chances of finding that perfect job opportunity.

Tip 7 – Be Bold

Be bold. Have the confidence to start conversations. Share, comment and like other people’s content. Ask questions and have the confidence to have those online conversations. You never know what positives may evolve from doing so.

Overall, the key to optimising your profile is to be active. Be human. Be real. Be you.
