The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) is offering the Food Service Circle network access to a free, comprehensive and certified ‘Meat Education Programme’. The programme, which is now exclusively online, has seen more than 10,000 certificates being awarded to individuals from across the hospitality sector since its inception.

With the possibility of the latest nationwide lockdown restrictions continuing for several more weeks, even months, it is hoped that even more chefs, butchers and meat industry associates will take advantage of the training programme.

Launched in 2016 with the aim of nurturing new skills and talent within the meat industry, the free programme is targeted at chefs, butchers, meat suppliers, and front of house colleagues’ alike, to advance and hone their skills. The programme primarily provides cooking skills, and practical and theoretical butchery for beef, lamb and pork.

AHDB is a statutory levy board, funded by farmers, growers and others in the supply chain.

Established in 2008 and classified as a Non-Departmental Public Body, it supports the meat and livestock (cattle, sheep and pigs) industry in England; horticulture, milk and potatoes in Great Britain; and cereals and oilseeds in the UK. AHDB’s remit covers 72 per cent of total UK agricultural output.

Dick van Leeuwen from AHDB, said: “We understand the challenges the contract catering industry is facing at the moment and are pleased to be able to help through the provision of training and development programmes to the FSC whilst the sector is effectively in lockdown.”
